Text 20 Nov 1 note “Valerie’s Interlude” by Rodney

Momma I swear to God
If I could swear to God
I never thought you’d be right when you said there be days like this
But you know me, I didn’t believe it
I was only 6 and you know kids don’t listen
We just try to envision the vision that we think your seeing
But right now all I can see is your face
And hearing grandma say
You wasn’t dealt the best hand but play at your own pace
And I’m still in the game
Because these blind eyes can’t even recognize what’s inside
They don’t know how to use their eyes to realize the lies
That the game tries to deny
That in real life
There is a blind side
But sometimes
I just want to close my eyes
And get lost deep inside my mind
Just to find myself in my favorite place to be
And if this is a dream
I don’t want to leave
With so many faces
And illustrations
From different places
And inspiration
This poem is showing
I can only take this frame of mind
And frame it in mines
And in the mind of minds
In which the belief of imagination resides
See AmeriKids is the place where I
Run away from the realms of reality and go
Just to ignite my soul
With people smiling
And running
And having fun
With campers whose talents are beyond this planet
And I can’t believe it
And all I can do is yell ashey
While brother Kojo plays the jimbe
And vibe to the melody that Melody sings
And flow with the summer breeze
While Tau hits those guitar strings
And listen to the word that Lauren brings
To life
While Matt dances left to right
Expressing some feelings
That he’s dealing
While Mark marks his mark on society and religion
And Christina with her teaching
Because the word must be heard
Spoken from the words that your heart dissected
That your pen resurrected
And your emotions presented
On this canvas of freedom
And since your listening
Mom, these are just a few of the people I want to be like
Someone that can change a life
See growing up I never wanted to be like Drake, Wayne or Kanye
I looked up to people like Joel, Chris and Scotty
Inspired by Chloe, Lola and Mary
And so many others that reminded
Those young minds
Like they reminded mines
That in due time
Your ambitions will reside
In front of your naysayers eyes
So I take these words and insert them in to mindset
Of the oldest
So they can pass on to the youngest
And help them recognize that the only limits are the limits that you limit your limitations to becoming limitless
That’s why poetry is never ending
But always ascending
It’s like poetry concord me
And my mouth birthed these phrases
With letters that formed some words that were candor
If you listen closely
You can hear a spitting image of me
With a bag of words I should have said
But I wouldn’t dare
Because the world’s eyes use to cause fear
We know the road to success is not straight
There is a curve called failure
A loop called confusion
Speed bumps called friends
Red lights called enemies
And caution lights called family
But here I don’t have to worry
I don’t have to worry about that world, where the hate rate is higher than the population
Where there’s too many funerals, not enough graduations
Too many babyshowers, not enough weddings
They say pray because he’s always listening
And I’m not trying to preach it
The word,
Because I’m having troubles just believing
What to believe in
Because those that believe in changing
And were destined to be leading
We Lennon, Luther, X, Jesus Christ them
We already read the eulogy for equality
At the rate we’re going hope will be the next casualty
But momma here, we don’t worry about those things
This is why I want to scream so loud for them
Because I’m so proud of them
And I appreciate what they allowed for me
And they inspire me
Like you inspired me
I love you for that, can’t you see
I appreciate you for everything
Because if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be the man you see

Text 20 Nov 1 note “Nothing But Love”

It took a while but I finally got my tracklist set in stone for my project “Nothing But Love” that’ll probably end up being released some time around mid spring of 2012 instead of January 1st which was intentioned date. I believe the title speaks for itself on what the contents of the project might contain. It’s about my appreciation of those that inspired me, changed me and love me. It’s about the new and best love in my life. I also talk about my mother and father. It all comes out here. I dedicate this to Valerie, Tamika, Camp AmeriKids, Project Rhythm and so many more people that’s stood by me. I’ll post a few things from the project on here every now and then, from time to time and hopefully it’ll be enjoyed. I have a really good feeling about this, I really do. Below is the tracklist.
